Only one more weekend

Uncle David lives in Concord, NH...sort of. He only lives there Tuesday-Thursday. All other days are with us! He has been able to stay with us every weekend (except one) since we moved here back in June. Now our lives will be over next weekend when he moves to AZ. What are we going to do? Just thinking about it makes me all emotional-blah. The house will be empty & creepy. I feel like I need to cover the furniture with white sheets in his room until he returns back to us. The freezer will never have another Magnum ice cream bar in it. And cheese fries will never be one of the sides for dinner. Who will spike the kids hair now? Not us. We will forever call our guest room "Davids room". I feel like I am sending one of my boys off to college. No wait, not true. Those are the days I look forward to. And this Monday will be one I hope never comes.

Ugh, I hate goodbyes. Its been happening too often.

Every Monday we go and do something fun together. We went to The Public Gardens a few weeks back. We had been cooped up the day before because of Irene.

Anne started having some big contractions, so we slowly made our way to the hospital this morning (Friday 3/25). Eleven minutes after we got there she was holding this handsome little guy in her arms. Luckily there was a doc there to deliver him. Anne and Frank are both doing great.

Zion!! Happens to be my favorite place ever! We came here to go camping with most of the Tharp families. I vacationed here every summer with my family when I lived in St George. I feel like I have never really appreciated the beauty of this place. When I was a teenager coming here I only came to check out the European dudes or go tubing down the Virgin river that goes through the canyon. I can see why people from all over the world come to visit. It has amazing sandstone cliffs that range in different colors. You can carry your camera around & take pictures with your eyes closed & never have a bad take. This place is awesome.

An Amazing Woman

As we all know, Anne is an amazing woman. She is talented, beautiful, clever, caring, and an awesome mom and wife to name just a few. She just had her birthday which gave us a chance to step back and reflect on her wonder.

Unfortunately we forgot to put the memory card back in the camera so all of the pictures from her party are lost forever.

I made this persian love cake for the party. I was a little worried that people wouldn't like the strange indian flavors, but it seemed to be pretty popular.

Wheelers Farm

My sister Laura & I went to Wheeler's Farm by my house today. I love this place. The boys had so much fun petting the animals, feeding the geese, & playing in the forts. They also played in a stream that surrounds the farm. Its surprisingly clean too. I feel like since I cant have a farm of my own I can come here to live the dream. Kidding people! I would die if I had to take care of animals every morning, shovel the poop, clean pigs, filter my own milk, & pick eggs from chicken coops! But it gives me an appreciation for what farmers have to do. Wheelers farm has a lot of opportunity's for people to get their hands dirty. They provide cow milking classes, horseback riding, wagon rides, & summer camps. I did see students working there from the FFA organization. Melissa Faustino would be so proud! Oh, did I mention its free? Here are some pictures of animals & farm animals too.

Charlie is always getting himself into dangerous situations. But this week he took it to a whole new level. He was going outside to play when I thought I heard the hose turn on or something. I went out to check only to find this cute little guy dancing for Charlie less than two feet away from him! All I could think about was how fast the venom would rush through Charlie's 25 pound body. So I flipped out! I grabbed him and brought him back into the house. David was there to spray the snake away with water. Thankfully no one was hurt. Except for the snake. Grandpa Chaunce had to behead him with a shovel. Poor snake. Was that too harsh? I'm just so grateful to the snake for giving me a warning sound to make me come out to check. In a way the rattlesnake saved my sons life. Ive always been amazed by these pit vipers even though they have a deadly bite. I kept the rattles. Maybe I should put them in Charlie's baby book.

Im pretty obsessed with St George. The scenery this place has is out of control! You have the famous red rocks, lava formations, & the views of Zion. But lately I'm lovin the moldy rocks that stick out of the mountains. They have so much color on them. I say the more mold the better (kind of like cheese right?). I thought it would be fun to take pictures of some of my nieces & nephews who live there. Now dont mistake me for Annie Leibovitz. Im not a photographer or anything.

Roy & Chantry just moved down to St George from SLC. This is such sad news for us! We had a good routine going, like hanging out EVERYDAY! Now we have to go down and visit them every weekend. But this really isn't out of the norm for the boys & I.

Dan matched last week! He is going to Tufts again! He will start his Radiology residency next year in June. We are so excited to be heading back to Boston. We will for sure miss Utah & being so close to our family & friends. But we have a year still to say our goodbyes. Hey blogging friends! I felt the urge to post a couple pictures of the boys. I may not get this urge again for another year though. And as a bonus these are pictures of them at Christmas. I took them for my Christmas cards that I never made. Yes, this is totally my style lately. Everything is past due in my life right now...even my period. Just kidding you guys! really.

Jack's 2nd Birthday

Surely there are many people out there faithfully checking our blog everyday wondering if we are still alive. Well, we are I guess. We just aren't very good at keeping this thing up to date. We'll start with Jack's birthday and then maybe post about some other stuff before he turns three.

Anyway, Jack turned 2 a week or so ago. We had just a little family party for him on his birthday and then invited some friends over for a party on the weekend. As you will see, Jack can draw quite a crowd. Luckily, we had enough food, cake, and ice cream for everyone.

George's Island

For Columbus day we took a last minute trip with our friends to George's Island, one of the many islands in the Boston harbor. It is a historical landmark that you can read about here. One of it's many purposes was to fire cannon balls at incoming enemy ships.

4th of July

Since this is probably our last year in Boston, we decided to go down to the Charles River Esplanade for Independence Day. The crowds were pretty big and we didn't get there early enough to secure a prime spot, but we did find a pretty big spot that was partially obstructed by trees. A bunch of friends also came and we had plenty of room. The Boston Pops played and so did some country band called Rascal Flats.

It was impossible to get a picture of Jack's face and the fireworks in the background because he was totally fixed on them the whole time.

He did start to get tired towards the end of the show and he would dose off occasionally. We were too cheap to buy him one of those glow in the dark things, but the guy thought he deserved one for being so cute, so he just gave him one.

The fireworks lasted for a really long time. I think the finale was longer than most cities' entire shows.

Charlie seemed to like the fireworks too.

Charlie's First Month

Charlie's first month has been pretty exhausting but also very fun. He still likes to party all night and sleep all day. Here are some of the things we have done since he was born.

Baby Charles

Anne went into labor friday night so we went into the hospital. After the epidural and waiting around for a while, she gave a couple of pushes and this guy popped out at about 3 am saturday morning. He was even sunny-side-up just like Jack.

He is quite the handsome little guy. He looks a lot like Jack, but not exactly the same. He also seems to have a pretty good temperament.

Jack seems a little curious at times, but doesn't seem jealous or anything. I don't think he has quite figured out who this guy is yet.

Best Ice Cream Ever

When we first moved to Boston 3 years ago, we discovered Christina's in Inman Square in Cambridge. We were overwhelmed by how good the ice cream was and how many crazy flavors they had. I think we went a couple times a week and each got a large so that we could try 3 new flavors every time. This probably lasted a month or two until we had tasted every flavor at least once (except the obviously nasty ones.) Since then we pretty much only go there when someone comes to visit. The picture of the menu is from a month or so ago when Stefanie came to visit.

The best flavors are Coconut Butterfinger and Khulfi. For those who enjoy the finer things in life, Khulfi is a tantalizing blend of cardamom and pistachio. For the less sophistocated (Andy Johnson), it has been described as tasting like fruity pebbles milk.

They also have seasonal flavors. Some of the notables include avacado, corn, and cucumber. Corn was good but the others tasted exactly like their namesakes.

I was sure we had way more pictures of our visits there since we go when all the tourists are with us, but here are some of the few that we could find.

New neighbors

Over the weekend we helped our new neighbors/friends move in. Like most 90 year old houses in Boston they were built with the smallest spiral staircases. So it was quite a show to see how everyone was getting all the stuff into the 3rd floor apartment. After getting the biggest couch you have ever seen up to the balcony the guys were unable to fit it through the door! It was an interesting day.

Dan, Jack & I are so excited to have the Coopers live upstairs from us. They have no idea what they’re in for…luckily for us they love kids, games, movies, cooking, babysitting, carpooling, & hanging out with a pregnant Mom. We have a lot of fun days ahead of us.

David bought us this movie for Christmas. We hardly ever have the time to sit down together and watch a movie, but we stayed up late last night and watched this. It was really funny and wierd (which I like) throughout the whole movie, and at the end it all came together perfectly. It is hard to make me laugh, but at the end I couldn't even say anything to Anne for a couple of minutes because I was laughing so hard. This movie is sweet. Thanks David.

Tetris

Anne and Jack have been gone for a few days, so to fill the void I bought Tetris for my phone. I love it. I have always had a true appreciation for Tetris. It the the best and most perfect game of skill and mental strength. If you dont agree then you probably aren't very good at Tetris. Stop being so jealous. Sometimes I play at night until I force myself to put it down and go to bed. I make sure that it is safe and comfortable by letting it charge on the pillow on Anne's side of the bed. Then when I wake up I play a few games while I am still in bed to get myself jazzed about the day. I have also been neglecting a lot of studying and other responsibilities because with Tetris in my life, they just don't seem as important anymore.
p.s. I got this new Tetris Mania that was probably created for people who dared think regular Tetris could use a little spice. It is fun, but the original Tetris on Gameboy is still the best by far.

Johnson Family Vacation

Sadly Andy, Fergi, and Arden went home today after visiting for about five days.

On the first day Arden wasn't tired after arriving on a red eye flight so she and Jack played while her parents tried to sleep.

We went to eat at some of our favorite places like Chacarero, Pizzeria Regina, and Santarpio's.

We also ate ice cream almost everyday at places like Christina's, JP Licks, and this place called Trani where transvestites inject ice cream into almost anything you can imagine and then cover it in chocolate.

We braved some cold weather, saw some historic sites, and relived some of Paul Revere's ride. In our spare time we played lots of Settlers and Cranium and watched Japanese pranks and Ali G on youtube.

Jack loved having a cute older woman around.

It was very sad to have them leave. Hopefully they will come back again soon. We also hope that some of our other friends will come spend some time with us while we live in Boston.
